Log Cabin Cleveland supports McCain-Palin

by Dale Giesige

Cleveland-Log Cabin Republicans of Greater Cleveland supports the endorsement of John McCain as our next president and Sarah Palin as our next vice-president by our Log Cabin Republicans national board of directors.

Yes, Log Cabin Republicans of Greater Cleveland are well aware of the "positions" of the local, state, and national Democrat Party on issues of hate crime, ENDA, "don't ask, don't tell," DOMA, transgender equality, gay marriage, and LGBT parenting rights. It's the same position as always: Democrats talk with inspirational speeches, full of love

Shaker officials to be honored at reception

by John Farina

Cleveland-The Cleveland Stonewall Democrats, Northeast Ohio's largest partisan LGBT political organization, is hosting their fifth annual Freedom Reception on October 6.

This year's reception will be held at Luxe Kitchen and Lounge, 6605 Detroit Ave, in

Cleveland Stonewall Democrats

the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. The event is held each year to raise funds to support the organization's political activities during each election year, including financial support of endorsed candidates. In addition to efforts on behalf of endorsed presidential candidate Barack Obama, the club has endorsed many officials and challengers in races for the U.S. House, Ohio Attorney General, Ohio legislature and several judicial races. A full list is available on the organization's website www.cleveland stonewalldemocrats.org.

Each year the Freedom Award is given in recognition for outstanding service by a

public official or government body for exceptional work on behalf of LGBT equality. Past honorees have included Governor Ted Strickland, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus and the City of Cleveland Heights.

As a tribute to longtime ally and friend of the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats and the LGBT community, the executive committee of CSD unanimously voted to rename

the award the 'Stephanie Tubbs Jones Freedom Award'. The first honorees of the newly named award will be the Shaker Heights City Council and mayor for their work in adding new protections for LGBT citizens to the city's ordinances for housing and city employment.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich will be the guest speaker, and the evening's program will feature a tribute to Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. Tickets for the event are $100 per person and are available at the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats website, www.clevelandstonewalldemocrats.org or by calling John Farina at 216-832-7106 by October 1.

John Farina is vice president for fundraising of the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats.

and affection for the gay community—then sit on their dead bottoms and pass nothing but gas.

The presidential elections from 1996

Log Cabin Republicans

forward have not been about gay rights, ever since LGBT Democrats refused to hold President Bill Clinton accountable for DADT and the federal Defense of Marriage Act. Gay rights organizations like the Human Rights Campaign have not been about advancing gay rights, but about electing and re-electing their fellow Democrat politicians no matter what their lack of achievement is on gay issues.

Gay Democrats have confused Democrat party rhetoric with LGBT accomplishment.

MASSAGE THERAPY

As far as LCR Greater Cleveland is concerned, the political field is even. American energy exploration and development, pro-growth prosperity, choice and competition in education, secure U.S. borders, peace and security for the people in Iraq and Afghanistan, and national security will be the centerpieces of this presidential election. Log Cabin Republicans believe in these American ideals. Gay Democrats do not.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are the best team for the White House in 2009.

Log Cabin Republicans of Greater Cleveland welcomes everyone, including LGBT Hillary voters and hockey moms, into our chapter.

Dale Giesige is the president of the Log Cabin Republicans of Greater Cleveland.

Reconnect at Catholic retreat in October

by Gregory Eastridge

Cleveland-In the biblical story of the Road to Emmaus, Jesus, shortly after his resurrection, joins two of his disciples as they walk the road to Emmaus, although the disciples do not recognize him. The disciples tell Jesus of the recent events and the story of those who found the empty tomb.

Emmaus Retreat

Jesus interprets scripture to them, but it was only through sharing a meal with Jesus that the disciples recognize him. At that very moment, Jesus disappeared. The disciples were overjoyed and spread the good news of the resurrection.

The ninth annual Emmaus retreat will be held October 17-19 at the Jesuit Retreat House, 5629 State Road, in Parma, just south of the Interstate 480 State Road exit. The Emmaus retreat is open to gay and lesbian Catholics, parents of gay and lesbian Catholics, and anyone seeking a truly

spiritual and uplifting weekend.

This year's theme is "Be Still and Know That I am God." Through moderated sessions and time for personal reflection, participants will have the opportunity to use prayer to connect or reconnect with the God that is there for us always and provides us strength and hope. Past Emmaus alums have made unexpected connections with others

and found an opportunity for healing in a supportive and peaceful atmosphere.

The cost of the Emmaus retreat is $145, which includes all meals (from

an evening meal on Friday through a morning meal on Sunday) and two nights in a private, single room at the Jesuit Retreat House. Scholarships are available.

Contact Barbara at the Jesuit Retreat House at 440-884-9300. Additional information and an on-line registration page can be found at www.jrh-cleveland.org. Please consider joining past participants and those experiencing the retreat for the first time.

Gregory Eastridge is a member of the committee planning the Emmaus Retreat.

LEARN TO LOVE AN ATTORNEY

If you can't learn to love us, then you may just find that you may like us. Usually, attorneys are only needed when there is a problem and rarely is a person happy during difficult times. The most logical person to direct misplaced anger is the attorney. Though don't hate us, for the most part, attorneys just wish to help their clients through a difficult time.
